Maybe Gil Fellingham will be soon getting more attention from sports agents and general managers. But the Brigham Young professor's recent research is meant to develop a predictive model that can be used in area such as health care and other statistical area.
Fellingham has put together a model to predict how many home runs a baseball player will hit - based upon the player's first-part of his career combined with data from other similar athletes whose playing days are already over.
The BYU professor's research was recently published in The American Statistician. His model was tested on 22 players using data from 2009 to 2016. In half of the cases, Fellingham's predictions were better than previous models while equal to nine of the other 11 cases.
