Several school districts across Kentucky shut down Friday as teachers called in sick to protest the passage of a controversial pension bill now heading to the desk of Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin.

The bill, which passed both chambers of the state legislature, would overhaul the state's public pension system, mostly affecting teachers hired after Jan. 1, 2019, by moving them from a traditional pension to a "hybrid" plan.
