Liam Egalton was an avid marathon runner. Fit and just starting a new relationship, Liam was excited for what the future had in store for him.

But that all changed, when four years ago, he started experiencing what doctor’s described as “depression”.

Over time, Liam’s sight was gone, followed by his ability to walk comfortably.

What was considered to be a mental health issue, turned out to be something much more sinister.

After a harrowing period of painful tests, Liam was finally diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), a so far incurable condition that affects your nerves and can cause: fatigue, vision problems or difficulties with walking.

Now, a few years since the shocking discovery, Liam sets his sight on a pioneering stem-cell treatment that is only available in Panama.

Chatting to RNIB Connect Radio’s Simon Pauley, Liam reveals exactly why he is so optimistic about this experimental treatment and what is it that keeps this young man going on a day to day basis.
