The Chairperson of the IGAD Council of Ministers says the regional body is taking steps to impose targeted sanctions against violators of the cessation of hostilities agreement.

Speaking at the opening of the South Sudan High-Level Revitalization Forum in Addis Ababa on Thursday, Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu sounded a strong warning to the country’s leaders that they must make compromises to stop the conflict, cautioning the parties that the regional body 'will not sit back and watch as the agreement is violated.'

Gebeyehu announced that the council would convene a meeting in the coming days to discuss proposals for targeted sanctions.
