Senator Lee asks what technology is needed for oil shale development. DIscussion between Secretary Salazar and Senator Lee regarding the reasons for the "bust" in oil shale development, and whether DOI should determine whether public land leases can be awarded for UT, WY, and CO. Secretary Salazar asserts it is his job to protect US natural resoruces, and recognizes that oil shale will require water supplies from the Western Slope of Colorado, impacting water availability for other uses.
