A new facility to improve fish processing and storage is expected to boost the fisheries sector and ultimately improve the livelihoods of the people of Bor and Greater Jonglei.
The facility was commissioned last week to benefit both Fangak Nuer and Jonglei Dinka communities.
It consists of a fish storage building, commercial ice machine, solar system, water filtration system, generator, cooling units, fish boxes, and a series of training and tutorial sessions to operate and maintain the equipment.
The entire project was set up by the United Nations Development Programme – UNDP, with funding from the United Kingdom Department for International Development – DFID.
UNDP Country Director, Kamil Kamaluddeen explains how the project will benefit the immediate and surrounding communities.
