Events are going to be taking place across Kent today to mark the 70th anniversary of the NHS.

Special prayers will to be said at Canterbury Cathedral before the bells are rung out across the city and part of the building lit up blue tonight.

The health service was launched on this day in 1948 with an aim of providing care for everyone, regardless of wealth.

Almost 21,000 people are currently employed by the NHS in Kent and Medway which looks after a population of more than 1.7 million.
