No one knows exactly how the relationship between Kawhi Leonard and the San Antonio Spurs got so unstable. The issues don't seem to stem from Kawhi and Greg Popovich directly, but the bitter triangle involving them and Kawhi's uncle. If the Spurs opted not to trade Kawhi only to see him walk away next year in free agency, they wouldn't be left empty handed. The resulting boost in cap space could prove to be more valuable than any trade package put together by Kawhi's suitors.
