Analyst says UN arms embargo will put pressure on parties to reach peace agreement

A political analyst and professor at the University of Juba says an arms embargo imposed by the UN Security Council last week will put pressure on the parties to reach a peace deal. 

 James Ukuk, Professor of Political Science at University of Juba said the restriction of arms purchases could weaken the government’s positions in the battle field, but could at the same time make it difficult for the national army to implement its mandate to protect civilians. 

Ukuk explains some of the possible consequences of the restrictions.
