If you caught any of the World Cup matches you must have noticed the amount of betting ads, offering great odds on live matches that you could bet on instantly on your mobile phone. Labour's deputy leader Tom Watson described the volume of gambling ads as "one of the only downsides to this brilliant World Cup". The Guardian newspaper revealed that World Cup viewers were exposed to almost 90 minutes of betting adverts throughout the tournament. Next year, Italy will become the first European country to ban gambling advertising altogether. The only exemption from the ban is the country's state run lottery. Is this a good idea to protect people or is this a nanny state response yet again? Vinny got the views of commentators Emma Woolf and Dave Atherton.
