Project Kent 2018 with Kent Reliance is on!

kmfm have joined forces once again with Kent Reliance and their team of fabulous volunteers to add a bit of sparkle back into the community.

Over the last few weeks kmfm have been asking you to nominate those special, community projects that are in desperate need of some TLC. They had a huge response and some amazing nominations from all areas of the county but the final project has been chosen.

This year’s Project Kent 2018 is the Young Lives Foundation in Maidstone. Over the next few weeks, kmfm and Kent Reliance will be sending in a troop of volunteers to transform their ground floor rooms into a vibrant, and friendly space for children, teenagers, young adults and volunteers who use the facilities on a daily basis. The team are ready to sugar soap, filler, sand, paint, drill and to add a splash of colour to the charity’s headquarters.

The ‘Young Lives Foundation’ is an independent children’s charity who help vulnerable, and disadvantaged children, and young people across the county. The area that is getting the Project Kent VIP treatment is the ground floor of the charity’s Maidstone building which is where the children and young people do their homework, socialise and use it to chill out. It is also used for mentoring sessions and visitor meetings as well as an office workspace. The Project Kent team of volunteers will be creating a welcoming and warm vibe as opposed to the plain, office-looking environment that it gives off now.

Brewers Decorator Centres heard what Project Kent is doing for the Young Lives Foundation and wanted to get involved. They have provided the team with all of the different colours of paint, accessories and materials they need to make the transformation, including filler, gloss, sandpaper, sugar soap, rollers and paint brushes.

Brewers Decorator Centres have 11 branches across Kent and have been operating in the county since 1924. Click on their logo below to check out their store locations, expert decorating advice as well as their wide range of trade paints, decorating accessories, designer paints and wallpapers.

Neil Vickery, Mentoring an Befriending Manager, “It will make an amazing difference. A lot of young people don’t have access to the right sort of space at home to do things like their homework and to meet with their mentors and befrienders”
