Spotlight’s Irene Lasu speaks to Leni Kinzli, an American-German dual citizen with a strong passion to bring people from different backgrounds together to foster peace and understanding.
She started her career working with a cultural exchange organization in Germany called Middle East Excursion, which took her to Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and Turkey in 2010. She then completed a master’s degree in intercultural communication in Berlin, Germany while working at an NGO called Crisis Action that aims to protect civilians in conflict zones.
Following her education, she worked in New York for 4 years at United Nations University and the Concordia Summit, where worked on a range of global policy issues such as modern slavery, migration, and drug policy.
In March 2017 she joined the peacekeeping mission in South Sudan, driven by a desire to work in the field directly with the people that the UN ultimately serves.
In her first Spotlight appearance, as a Public information officer, Irene asks Leni what inspired her volunteering experience in South Sudan?
The Spotlight is presented by Irene Lase and produced by Machrine Birungi
