Seven years ago, claims for PPI compensation began, and since then about 31 billion pounds has been paid out.

But that’s only a third of the estimated 100 billion pounds out there for the missold payment protection insurance on customer’s bank accounts.

The Financial Conduct Authority’s looking to draw a line under the claims, so in a year’s time that compensation will disappear – despite only half of us being aware there’s a deadline at all.
