It was the last day of the monsoon session of the Parliament, but the Triple Talaq Bill will have to hibernate until the winter session to clear its last hurdle. Last year, on the 22nd of August, the Supreme Court, by a 3-2 majority, declared the practice unconstitutional.

Subsequently, the Triple Talaq Bill (officially called the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill 2017, which makes instant triple talaq a criminal offence was introduced, and the Centre had hoped that it would be passed on the last day of the monsoon session.
