How much alcohol is a safe amount to consume? Is there a safe amount? A new global study confirms that drinking any amount of booze is detrimental to your health. Published in the Lancet, the Global Burden Of Disease study looked at levels of alcohol use in 195 countries, comparing people who do not drink at all to those who have one or more alcoholic drinks per day. The results find that there is no safe level of alcohol consumption, with any amount raising the risk of disease. While the researchers admit moderate drinking may protect against heart disease, they found that the risk of cancer and other diseases outweighs these protections.
