WHO Strengthens Ebola Surveillance at Border entry and exit Points
A humanitarian aid group warned Wednesday, that a fast-growing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo could become "the worst ever seen in East Africa," after the deadly virus spread to an area surrounded by armed militants.
Since the latest outbreak was declared on Aug. 1, a total of 115 people has reported symptoms of hemorrhagic fever in the eastern provinces of North Kivu and Ituri, and more than 70 people have died so far.
Back in South Sudan, the Ebola disease outbreak in the DRC remains a growing concern and World Health Organization has stepped in to strengthen surveillance at the border entry and exit points.
Doctor Abraham Adut Abenego, WHO Public Health officer told Felix Katie in Yambio that the World Health Organization in partnership with South Sudan Ministry of Health has mobilized an emergency response team in the states bordering the DRC.
