Despite research and anti-smoking campaigns, the UK won’t stop until after 2050, according to new analysis.

But the report from tobacco giant Philip Morris shows some parts will quit long before then, with Bristol, Wokingham and York all having their last smoke in the 2020s.

Levels of deprivation and access to NHS support are apparently major factors.

It’s a long-fought success for anti-smoking campaigners, but cigarette companies are already preparing for how to stay in business.

Nick Howard speaks to Philip Morris director Mark MacGregor, who says the writing is on the wall.
