New study estimates South Sudan Five – Year Civil war has claimed 190 – Thousand people

The five year civil war in South Sudan has claimed lives of One Hundred and ninety thousand people, according to an independent study conducted by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

The study says other conflict related factors such as population displacement, disruption to health facilities and lack of food the death toll pushes the death toll to at least 383 – thousand and when are considered.

The study conducted between December 2013 to April this year, shows that most of the deaths occurred in Jonglei, Unity and states in the greater Equatoria.

The lead study author, Professor Francesco Checchi, spoke to Sani Martin about how important this report is.
