Faith healing, folk cures and stories of miraculous recoveries that doctors can't explain have been around for centuries. But last night on BBC 2 a Horizon documentary, The Placebo Experiment - Can My Brain Cure My Body? suggested that it may be possible for people to see improvement in certain conditions without the use of any actual drugs. Dr Michael Mosley gathered 117 volunteers suffering from back pain and treated them with nothing more than fake pills and the power of the mind.
