William John Endley, a South African national and an adviser to South Sudanese opposition who was sentenced to death in South Sudan, for espionage and conspiring to overthrow the government, has been released.
His release on Friday comes after President Salva Kiir told a gathering at the the National Peace celebrations that he was pardoning two prisoners of war that have been in detention.
Endleywas charged along with SPLM - IO spokesperson James Gatdet Dak, who was sentenced to death on February 12 for treason.
Speaking shortly after his release, Endley thanked President Salva Kiir for pardoning him.
"The President's words if effected are the way forward for this beautiful country," said Endley.
