Plan International to launch mass awareness campaign against Child Marriage in South Sudan

Plan International is adding its voice to growing criticism of the marriage of a 17-year-old girl in Awerial. The story of Elizabeth Nyalong, who was put up for auction to the highest bidder, sparked off public outcry and angered women activists.

Plan International, an aid organization focused on advancing children’s rights and equality for girls is demanding that the government investigates the people involved in the marriage.

Allen Poni, Plan International Communications Officer told Miraya Breakfast show that the marriage is degrading and deprives Nyalong of her rights. Poni explains that negative cultural practices should be prohibited.
