The Governor of Gbudue State, Daniel Badagbu, is hopeful that a newly launched youth empowerment project will keep the country’s young people away from conflict and inspire them to become more productive members of society.

The Kingdom of the Netherlands signed an agreement with the UN Development Program yesterday to support youth employment and empowerment in five states till December 2022.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Badagbu said engagement of youth in productive activities would ultimately contribute to peace and stability in the country.

“The movement we are talking about the young people of this country, we are talking about the future of South Sudan. The movement we engage the young people into productive activities, we are creating conducive environment and stability for the country because these young people are being used by the warlords because they are not empowered," said the Governor.

"They don’t have these social economic activities that can keep them. So, when we see this grant being signed today, the future of this country is becoming very bright, he added.

The project worth 9.4million US dollars would go towards projects and support systems in Jubek, Torit, Gbudue, Lakes and Jonglei.

Up to six thousand young people will benefit through vocational training, mentoring and business skills development.
