Joshua Fields Millburn and Ryan Nicodemus are activists promoting Minimalism and a documentary about them on Netflix has multiple shots, real and not staged, of people stampeding through stores to get the best deals from Black Friday sales.

Here is their statement on this Black Friday, "When it comes to holiday gift-giving, The Minimalists always recommend gifting thoughtful consumables, experiences, and charitable donations instead of gift cards, neckties, and fruitcake. So, if your friends and family already have everything they need, would you consider buying them a brick on Black Friday? What? A brick? Yes—a brick!"

The Minimalists you see, are helping to build a not-for-profit grocery store in Dayton, Ohio, where thousands of families don’t have access to healthy food.

And the duo say, "But we can change that—one brick at a time." And so they are asking shopping addicts to pause and think and donate at least one dollar towards the purchase of one brick that will help them reach the $100,000 needed.

They are part of an increasing movement that is trying to warn the world of the perils of over-consumption.
