"Early HIV testing saves lives" - HIV/AIDS training officer

Ahead of World AIDS Day, the South Sudan Aids Commission is encouraging people to do voluntary testing as part of efforts to eradicate HIV/AIDS in the country by 2030.

This comes as the world prepares commemorate World Aids Day tomorrow – 1st of December under the theme “Know Your HIV Status”.

The national commemoration for this year’s World Aids Day has been rescheduled for next Thursday, 06th December, at the Nyakuron cultural center, to allow for the participation of the military and organized forces and the country’s leadership, who are currently engaged in a re-treat.

The prevalence rate of HIV in South Sudan currently stands at 2.7% with Greater Equatoria carrying the highest burden of 2.6%. 

Dr. Patrick Bongi, a training officer with UNMISS HIV/AIDS unit speaks to the Miraya Breakfast show about the incidence rates across the country.
