Human Rights Commissioner on human rights situation in South Sudan

As South Sudan joins the rest of the World to commemorate Human Rights Day, a commissioner in the South Sudan Human Rights Commission says the country has a way to go to ensure accountability of human rights offenders.
Beny Gideon says the commission has established a ‘human rights defenders’ desk’ as part of measures to push for accountability and avoid impunity.
Gideon is encouraging the public to report cases of human rights violations to the commission.
Commissioner Beny Gideon described the general human rights situation in the country as ‘not good.’
He said the commission is working to address and reverse the situation.
