As South Sudan joins the rest of the World to commemorate Human Rights Day, the Ambassadors of the European Union, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom have issued a joint appeal for the respect and protection of human rights.

Ambassadors Sinead Walsh, Janet Alberta and Alison Blackburn said they are deeply concerned about the state of human rights in the country, pointing at reported violations and the most recent reports of rape and abuse of women in Northern Liech State.

The Ambassadors made a joint appearance on the Miraya Breakfast Show.  EU Ambassador Sinead Walsh pressed for a full investigation into rape reports.

Netherlands Ambassador, Janet Alberta said education is essential in preventing and stopping the cycle of impunity.

British Ambassador Alison Blackburn said the South Sudan government has a responsibility to respect and protect human rights.
