More than one thousand five hundred leaners from cattle-keeping communities are benefiting from a Livelihood and Education program to give nomadic groups basic education skills and knowledge.

The pilot program known as the Pastoralist Livelihood and Education Field School is jointly implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organisation, the UN Education and Scientific Organisation – UNESCO, and line ministries.

It offers functional literacy and numeracy classes to children, youth and adults in ten cattle camps across the country.

In this interview, FAO Program Manager Ezana Kassa and UNESCO Education Program Specialist Awol Endris explain that the curriculum suits the context and lifestyle of pastoralist communities.
