Cooking with firewood is an exhausting task for many women in South Sudan.
Women have to walk for several hours to collect firewood. But it’s not just the trek for firewood that is exhausting, it is also the dangers women face as they search for firewood. The risk of being raped and violence is real for many women in both rural and urban parts of South Sudan.
Today in Kuajock, that exhaustion and risk is being minimized by a briquettes making project initiated by the Civil Affairs Division of the UN Mission office in Kuajock and the state authorities.
Women have been trained to make briquettes using cow dung, grass and soil.
Ajok Lino Angok, a Civil Affairs officer, told Radio Miraya Reporter correspondent in Kuajock, Manyang Mayom that the initiative is not just meant to ease life for the women, but ALSO to promote co-existence.
