Interview with Dr, Awol Endris, UNESCO Education Specialist on First International Education Day

Did you know that 262 million children and youth across the world still do not attend school. 

Also does it surprise you that 617 million children and adolescents cannot read and do basic math? Yet another disturbing statistic is that 40% of girls in sub-Saharan Africa complete lower secondary school and some four million children and youth refugees are out of school.

Yes that’s the reality that strikes us as the world marks mark the first-ever International Day of Education today. The day was was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly, last year in celebration of the role of education for peace and development.

Dr. Awol Endris, is an Education Specialist working with UNESCO. He was hosted on Miraya Breakfast show to discuss what could be done to make education a priority for everyone.
