The former spokesperson of SPLM/A-IO leader Riek Machar says he has forgiven those responsible for his detention in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.

In November 2016, James Gatdet Dak was deported by Kenyan officials to face charges in Juba. After two years in detention, President Salva Kiir pardoned Gatdet from his death sentence and ordered his release during peace celebrations in Juba in October.

Now in Khartoum awaiting clearance to be reunited with his family in Sweden, Gatdet says he wants to leave the past behind and move on for the sake of peace in the country.

“I am not bitter now and I have forgiven those who responsible for my kidnapping,” he said adding that he needs time to heal from the stress and trauma.

Gatdet spoke to Radio Miraya’s Sebit William in this exclusive interview.
