Juba City Council cracks down on litterbugs and brothels

Episode 790,   Feb 11, 2019, 06:30 AM

Juba City Council is enforcing tough penalties against people caught littering the streets of Juba. Fines of between five thousand (5,000 SSP) and ten thousand (10,000 SSP) pounds are being imposed for dropping garbage on the streets and public areas.

Deputy Mayor, Nhial Majak Nhial, says the measures are being enforced to keep the national capital clean.  He is appealing to the public to cooperate with council staff as they go about their duty.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Mayor says the Council will seize land titles for any individual whose plot is used as a brothel.

Juba City Council announced late last year that it would take action against landlords whose land and structures are being used by prostitutes.

Deputy Mayor, Nhial Majak Nhial, say the property owners will be prosecuted, and says the crackdown will ensure security, sanitation and ethical use of business premises.

This comes after a noted increase in commercial sex in the national capital.

Deputy Mayor, Nhial Majak Nhial spoke to Philip Wani in this interview.
