The UN World Food Program (WFP), has started pre-positioning humanitarian assistance in hunger prone parts of the country.

Truckloads of food and non-food supplies have been dispatched to Pibor, Yirol and Uror before the onset of the rainy season, when many routes become inaccessible.

WFP Communications Officer, Thomson Phiri says they are taking advantage of the dry conditions to transport the items closer to the targeted areas.

Phiri says distribution of the food will start during the lean season in May before the next harvest. He says more than five million people in South Sudan are food insecure.

He spoke to Nelson Lwak in this interview.
