Vatican's Foreign Minister, Archbishop Paul Gallagher scheduled for Week-long Visit to South Sudan

The Vatican’s foreign minister, Archbishop Paul Gallagher, arrives In the country next week for an official visit during which he will meet with the President, diplomats, bishops and other key officials in the country. 

Bishop Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala, president of the South Sudan’s Bishop conference has confirmed the vatican’s top envoy’s weeklong visit to South Sudan.  

He revealed that Pope Francis has opened the Vatican's first permanent embassy in South Sudan, in what is seen as a gesture of solidarity with a country that has suffered a devastating conflict since 2013.

“Since our independence, the holy father holds South Sudan so much close to his heart especially for peace in the country. This relationship continues to grow, we know that he has opened an embassy in Juba South Sudan."

Bishop Hiboro said the  "this visit is very crucial, very important, his coming causes solidarity with us in South Sudan and also to encourage the process of peace, the peace implementation program that is going on.”

Bishop Hiboro has not ruled out the possibility of the Vatican’s special envoy making a hint on the possible visit of the pope to South Sudan.
