Amnesty International is urgently calling for respect toward the judicial guarantees, due process and freedom of people who have been arbitrarily detained for political reasons.

The Human Rights watchdog says government must promote guarantees to dismantle the policy of repression implemented by state agents.

The call comes after the Human Rights council in Geneva heard on Monday that continued impunity for crimes committed during the conflict risks turning “South Sudan into a police state built on fear and corruption.

Without giving a specific figure, Amnesty International Deputy Director for East Africa, the Horn and the Great Lakes, Seif Magango, told Sworo Charles that people like Kerbino Wol and Peter Biar Ajak continue to languish in jail despite assurances and commitment to end these violations.
