Almost 500 South Sudanese farmers will get training and support under a new USAID partnership designed to combat Fall Armyworm, an insect that can cause significant damage to crops, including maize and sorghum.

The new partnership has been struck between USAID; the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center, Centre for Agriculture and Bioscience and AgBiTech, a company based in Fort Worth, Texas, that developed Fawligen, a biological product to control Fall Armyworm.

Jeff Hill, Office Director for Economic Growth and Agriculture, USAID South Sudan, says farmers will be trained and supported to use Fawligen a biological pesticide product used for caterpillar pest control, suitable for organic farming to control.
