A local initiative is using ‘tea-drinking’ to promote peace, unity and reconciliation among communities in the Gurei residential area of Juba.
“Take-tea- Together” is a creative approach that was adopted by the ‘Salam Junub’ local NGO last year, that sees communities sit under a tree to discuss community-related issues over a cup of tea.
Pulo Albino Alphonso, the head of the organizing committee, says the discussions have resulted in a drop in criminal activity in Gurei and are helping persuade criminal youth gangs to get off the streets.
“Several young people turned up for the latest get-together that was held yesterday under a tree in the Gurei residential area,” he said.
Pulo Albino Alphonso sat down with Abraham Malek in this interview.
