Brothers kill sister for refusing to marry suitor in Yirol

A twenty-year-old young lady was beaten to death in Yirol, Eastern Lakes State after rejecting a forced marriage.

The 20-year-old school girl known as Nyaluak Magorek Mariak had rejected to marry one of the two men her family had proposed to her. 

Two brothers beat their sister to death for refusing a forced marriage in Eastern Lakes state, the state information minister, Taban Abel has said.

Amnesty International, is demanding justice for the 20-year-old young lady, saying the inhumane consequence of this forced marriage that resulted in her death highlights the urgent need to end this practice.

In November 2018, a girl age between 16 and 17 was forcibly married after a controversial auction on social media platform ‘Facebook.’

Confirming the incident to Radio Miraya’s Mageng Wade Deng, in Yirol Town is police Officer Marial Maker Majak who is in charge of crimes in Yirol County.

He explains that the lady was tortured in the suburb of Yirol Town by her brother after she rejected the proposed man to her by her relatives.

Marial also says that cases related to torture, abuses and forced marriages are very common in this area.
