He began at the BBC after University, thanks to a good bit of friendly nepotism. He drifted into the BBC, after a mild dose of fascination about this new thing called radio, as he tells on this clip. His voice on news bulletins came to be one which announced some of the 20th Century's most historic moments, not to mention his Boat Race commentaries.
