Candid conversation on menstruation with two young ladies striving to break taboos

Episode 917,   May 27, 2019, 08:10 AM

Menstruation is a normal occurrence but is often surrounded by taboo and shame especially among young girls, who sometimes stay away from school while on their period.

Every May 28, Menstrual Hygiene Day (MH Day) raises awareness and combats taboos associated with menstrual hygiene with the goal of enabling women and girls to achieve their full potential.

The theme of Menstrual Hygiene Day 2019—It's Time for Action—not only emphasizes the urgency of this public health issue, but also highlights the transformative power of improved menstrual hygiene to empower the world’s women and girls and unlock their economic and educational opportunities.

Gloria Albert and Emmanuella Pita are two young ladies who have taken it upon themselves to visit schools in Juba to distribute dignity kits and counsel the girls on menstrual hygiene.

They spoke to Sebit William about the challenges women and girls go through in South Sudan and how they are trying to fill the gap.
