Experts call for tightened restrictions on public smoking

On average, one session of shisha is equivalent to up to 300 puffs of conventional tobacco cigarettes.
Additionally, the World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that there are an estimated 14-tobacco related diseases.
One would think these dauting figures are enough to bring down the number of smokers, conversely the WHO says tobacco kills eight million every year and cautions that governments need to do more to tackle smoking and its enormous health, social, environmental and economic costs.
As we observe World No Tobacco Day today, health experts in South Sudan are warning of the dangers of tobacco consumption to smokers and the people around them.
The focus of World No Tobacco Day 2019 is on "tobacco and lung health." The campaign will increase awareness on: the negative impact that tobacco has on people’s lung health, from cancer to chronic respiratory disease.
In South Sudan, tobacco is one of the most consumed substance in the country.
A panel of experts - Dr. Pinyi Nyimol Mawien, from the National Ministry of health, Dr Joseph Lou Kenyi Mogga from the World Health Organisation and Okia James a civil society activist, sat down with Sebit William to discuss the dangers of tobacco.
