Japan to step up support to South Sudan peace process

Japan is one of South Sudan’s closest partners, extending support to the peace process and funding massive projects in infrastructure and water and sanitation.  

Regarding peace Tokyo has contributed $1mln for activities of the National Pre-Transitional Committee (NPTC) and an additional $3.2mln for the Intergovernmental Authority for Development (IGAD), with hope for extending more support. 

Japan also remains a strong partner in humanitarian and infrastructure projects, most notable road and bridge construction and the Juba water project that aims to provide clean water to 25,000 Juba residents through the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Japan’s Ambassador to South Sudan, H.E Seiji Okada visited Radio Miraya along with the Director of the Cooperation Division for African Affairs in the Japan Foreign Ministry, Yoshiyasu Iseki talk more about these projects and their involvement in South Sudan.
