The first-ever World Food Safety Day, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in December 2018, will be celebrated on 7 June 2019 under the theme "Food Safety, everyone's business".
The day recognizes that food safety is key to achieving several UN Sustainable Development Goals and is a shared responsibility between governments, producers and consumers.
In South Sudan, the UN World Food Program (WFP) is a key player in food handling and safety, distributing food commodities to more than 5 million people across the country.
As part of its rigorous efforts of quality assurance, the UN food agency recently conducted conclusive tests on food samples that were feared to have been contaminated.
The results came out negative for contamination, confirming the food was fit for human consumption.
WFP Communications Officer, Tompson Phiri spoke to Sebit William about this and fod safety in general.
