Last year Sinn Fein president Mary Lou McDonald was accused of a u-turn after initially saying a border poll should be parked until after Brexit. So are Gerry Adams comments an indication of a softening of the party's border poll position?  It come on the heels of the party taking a considerable hit in recent elections in the Republic, losing half its councillors and two out of its 3 MEPs.
