Yesterday we reported how the taxpayer is facing a £40 million bill after the PSNI lost a court challenge over holiday pay. Police officers and civilian staff will now receive backdated holiday pay for total hours worked rather than basic hours. This morning the Department of Finance has told us this regarding Northern Ireland civil servants about back dated holiday pay: "The Department is in early discussions with the Unions about backdated holiday pay. These discussions are at an early stage and it is premature to comment or seek to put a cost to this." The Nolan Show also asked the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service service the same question: "We are actively considering the issue of overtime and holiday pay for NIFRS employees." And this is what a Translink spokesperson told us: "Translink is currently reviewing the ruling in the recent PSNI case on holiday pay and will engage with the unions as required." Stephen spoke to BBC NI Economics and Business Editor John Campbell, DUP MLA Jim Wells and MLA Claire Hanna.
