More than seven million people remain in need of humanitarian assistance of some form in South Sudan, amidst a severe funding gap to meet their most urgent needs.

In December 2018 the UN Office for Humanitarian Affairs launched an appeal of $1.5bln targeting 5.7mln people.

As of April, the 183 (11 UN, 67 INGOs, 105 LNGOs) humanitarian partners operating in the country had mobilized 38% of resources required.

The Deputy Special Representative and UN Humanitarian Coordinator for South Sudan, Alain Noudéhou says the signing of the peace agreement has resulted in a ‘remarkable improvement in ability to access every part of the country’ except locations in Yei River State which have witnessed sporadic fighting over the past months.

Mr. Noudéhou in this interview with Nelson Lwak explains how aid organizations are racing against time, despite funding gaps, to reach communities in need.
