Episode 955,   Jul 09, 2019, 07:39 AM

Eight years ago, on July 09 2011, the South Sudan flag was hoisted high with pride, to mark the birth of a new nation.

After years of struggle for Independence from Sudan, the 2005 agreement ended Africa's longest-running civil war.

Just two years into this hard-earned freedom, the country descended into conflict, shattering dreams and leading to the loss of thousands of lives.

Today’s independence is marked with deep reflection on the journey, and a cautious optimism for peace ahead.

What went wrong? What are the missed opportunities? and What is the way forward?

Rita Lopidia, Director EVE organisation, Rajab Mohandis, Executive Director for the Organization for Responsive Governance and Manasseh Mathiang from the AnaTaban youth advocacy group shared their thoughts with Sebit William on the Miraya Breakfast show.
