50 years ago the Apollo 11 mission was on its final approach to the moon.
But since 1972, just three years later, we haven’t been back, staying in low earth orbit and with government bodies like NASA increasingly overshadowed by private enterprise in space.
And though the likes of Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic have yet to launch, firms like Iridium have been successful in space - they launched the first satellite phone system in the 90s, and which seemed miraculous at the time.
They’ve recently completed their second satellite constellation in orbit, and Nick Howard asked CEO Matt Desch if the Apollo mission had an impact on him growing up.
