The figures are worrying, 75% of blind and partially sighted people, of working age, are not in employment.
Why is this?
Well there are a number of factors and over the coming months we will look at what RNIB's Employment Service is doing to get more visually impaired people into work, show employers that employees with sight loss can be a huge benefit to their field and what pressures are being put on local and national government.
There is a wealth of support for people looking for work, as well as for those who are trying to stay in work despite the deterioration of their sight and we'll bring you all the latest news, campaigns and highlight what support is available to you.
This month RNIB Connect Radio's Allan Russell speaks with Martin O'Kane, RNIB's Specialist Lead on Employment for an overview of the service.
