Juba Bridge on ‘verge of collapse’

Juba City Council is appealing to the national government and the ministry of Roads and Bridges to rehabilitate Juba Bridge which is reported to be on the verge of collapse. 
 
Juba Bridge, which stands as the only bridge across the River Nile, is a lifeline to connect populations and transport commodities into the national capital.
 
The Deputy Mayor for Physical Infrastructure Development, Thiik Thiik Mayardit is advising heavy truck-drivers to off-load merchandize on the eastern side of the bridge and transport the cargo in light weight vehicles. 
 
Constructed in 1972 the bridge underwent last underwent major repairs in 2008 and 2010. 
 
Thiik Thiik Mayardit is advising commuters to exercise caution while crossing.
