Episode 1010,   Sep 27, 2019, 03:07 PM

An environmental specialist has called for the relocation of communities from oil field areas across the country.

Nhial Tiitmamer, Research and Programme Manager at the Sudd Institute, describes the most recent oil leakage at a pipeline in Budang county of Northern Liech state as ‘disastrous’ and says immediate measures must be taken to protect surrounding communities from long-term health complications.

Greater Pioneer Operating Oil Company - the company managing the field has sent a delegation to stop the leakage and assess the extent of damage.

The local population has reported traces of crude oil floating on their water sources and side-effects on their domestic livestock.

Nhial Tiitmamer says the companies involved must be held to account.

He spoke to Gabriel Shadar.
